I am really excited to introduce my first ever FREE genesis child theme. Best magazine is purely a personal blogging and micro magazine WordPress theme.
It has been almost 2 years since I have been developing websites on genesis framework. I have crafted dozens of templates for my friends and for my clients, but I always had non-disclosure policy so I never had any portfolio.
But then yesterday (that’s 13th of June, 2015) I decided that time has come to build up some portfolio. So yesterday I decided to start working on a free WordPress magazine theme built upon genesis foundation.
And after 6 hours of continuous work, I got an awesome result. You can see the screenshot below. You can click on the image to get a full-screen view.
What’s New In Best Magazine Theme.
I have tried to keep the design as simple as possible but at the same time, elegant.
I have not used any box shadow or gradients so as to keep the complete design flat. But I have used text-shadow to give the Logo text and navigation text a bit of depth.
I have also customized the subscription form. I have added a transparent background to the field area and buttons. I have also added smooth CSS transition effects to the buttons, links and the navigation.
You will find that the category and tags listing have been removed from the homepage, but they are visible inside the single post. I have used a custom function for this and it can be easily modified. Furthermore, I have removed the date tags from the comments, from the post meta and comment reply as it really helps with SEO.
I have also tried to provide a sleek look to the read more button by adding transparent background to non-active state and smooth green background on hover state.

My magazine theme comes with all the default features provided by genesis. But some features has been modified to give a smooth look to the design.
